MagicFolder - a free Raiser's Edge tool for document storage and management

Hi Folks,

We've just released our newest free (that's right, free) add-on for the Raiser's Edge and we invite you to give it a try. Ever wish you had a convenient place to store documents that relate to a specific constituent, gift, fund, appeal, etc? Now you do! From nearly any record in the Raiser's Edge, you can simply select the MagicFolder link from the toolbar to open the folder specifically for that particular record.

Now you can easily centralize your documents without cluttering your Raiser's Edge database! To get started, simply download and unzip the setup application attached to this post in our MagicFolder forum, then double-click on setup.exe and follow the prompts. When using MagicFolder for the first time, you will need to specify a shared folder location that is the "root" folder for all your folders. Simply specify a location that is shared on the network and accessible to the appropriate users. You can use either UNC (like "\\server\Directory") or mapped drive (like "N:\directory\") nomenclature, just make sure it's a shared location that is common to all users of MagicFolder. If you ever need to change the location of the root folder, just ctrl-click on the MagicFolder link to reopen the settings page.

That's all there is to it. MagicFolder is currently in "beta" version, so please let us know on this forum if you have any issues or have any feature requests for future versions. We look forward to hearing from you!

Globally changing fields in Batch

Occasionally, when you are creating a Batch, you may realize that you need to add or change some information in one of your fields in the Batch. For example, you just imported a group of gifts and you realize that you would like to change the GL Post Date to the last day of the previous month. You could change the date in the data file and import the gifts again, or you could save yourself time by globally changing the field in the Batch.

To globally change a field in Batch, you start by clicking your cursor into the appropriate column in the Batch. For this example, we will use the GL Post Date Field.

Then you go to Tools, Global Change GL Post Date. The following screen will appear:

Enter the new date information. You can choose to overwrite the existing values in the field as well. Once you have made your adjustments, click the Change Now button. This will update the data in the field to the new value.

Note: Text fields cannot be globally changed in Batch.

Caller ID for Raiser's Edge - autopop caller's constit record - beta testers needed

Hi Everyone,

We've developed a new module for the Raiser's Edge that uses Caller ID to automatically pop open a constituent's record as they are calling in. It can also "speed-dial" out from a constituent's record saving you the time of manually typing in the number. We need some beta testers that would be willing to help us test it out. In exchange, your organization would get to use the software at no charge. To be eligible, you must have caller ID service, a phone jack in your computer and phone line that will plug into it (it also works with Skype, so on the outside chance you use that it would work as well).
